Riding into Fall in Comfort: ASSOS Women’s UMA GT Bib Tights

There’s now a chill in the air as I start my morning fall rides in Chicago. The temperature fluctuates from chilly starts to milder mid-50s by the end of my ride. I’ve been testing the new UMA GT bib tights from ASSOS for several weeks now, and they’ve quickly become a favorite for cooler weather. ASSOS recently launched these bibs as part of its “There is no off switch” campaign. Yep, I’m just not ready to head into the basement or hang up my cleats for the season.

Key Features and Design

The POLAR fabric features a super-soft, brushed inner face that is incredibly luxurious against the skin, especially on those blustery morning rides. The midweight fabric creates a low-volume loft that traps warmth without bulk.

ASSOS features a raw cut waist and ankle finish with light compression, providing a seamless transition from fabric to skin. The zeroPressure waist ensures comfort without any pressure on the abdomen while still keeping everything in place.

A sign of good bib straps is that they are virtually unnoticeable during a ride. The straps on the UMA GT bib tights stay put without rolling or twisting. In an innovative design, the rear bib straps are anchored in two locations: the waist and the top of the seat. ASSOS calls this the rollBar. It’s adapted from its Racing Series to stabilize the chamois by locking it in place as the rider’s weight transfers during sprinting, climbing, and cornering.

Adding to your comfort is ASSOS’ UMA GT S11 chamois insert. It utilizes the company’s Shock-Absorb Damping Mono 12, which uses thermoformed shaping to minimize ridges and irritation. The 3D Waffle layer features perforated foam for increased breathability and reduced weight. The goldenGate 2.0 free-floating chamois moves with your body, not against it. The chamois’ overall design is super comfortable, and the new cut-outs on the wings reduce friction throughout the pedal stroke. I experienced total comfort during test rides up to 50 miles on gravel and road.

The UMA GT S11 is available in full and 2/3 leg lengths and comes in two colors: black and primal blue. ASSOS offers extended sizing from women’s XS to 2XL, and its regular fit tends to be true to size, providing a slightly roomier fit than its race cut.

Bottom Line

I liked everything about the new UMA GT bib tights from ASSOS – comfort, warmth, breathability, and durability. The company sent me the 2/3 leg length version, and by wearing longer socks, they worked great in temperatures down to freezing. As the mercury rose above 55 degrees on a sunny day, these bibs started to feel a little warm. While your tolerance for cold and heat may vary, the UMA GT bib is perfect for the shoulder seasons.
