Tomorrow isn’t just the prelude to Thanksgiving weekend; it’s Women-Led Wednesday, a transformative initiative celebrated annually and designed to boost visibility and support for women-led businesses. This day encourages consumers to shop from women-led brands, promoting a more gender-balanced economy. The initiative highlights the importance of shopping from these businesses and emphasizes sharing and supporting them through various platforms such as social media, press, and direct financial contributions.
In the cycling world, Women-Led Wednesday is a game-changer. It shines a much-needed spotlight on women-led brands that often struggle in a market overshadowed by larger, established companies. The day provides an opportunity for these businesses to showcase their products and stories, thereby gaining increased exposure and support. The increased visibility can lead to more sales, partnerships, and growth opportunities, which are essential for sustaining and expanding their presence in the competitive cycling market.

Julie Pitts, the force behind Jules Threads, underscores the importance of this initiative. “I think it’s really important for women-owned businesses to be spotlighted in what is often a male-dominated industry, especially cycling clothing manufacturers. A lot of women don’t know that there are companies out there that are made just for them, and that is what Jules Threads is all about!”
Joining Jules Threads are other women-owned cycling and activewear brands like Wild Rye, Shredly, Brandwyn, and Betty Designs. You can discover the complete list of brands here — prepare to be inspired!
Even more rare are women-owned bike shops. Four years ago, my friends Kate Nolan and Daniel Wolter Nolan opened Brown County Bikes in Nashville, Indiana. Their shop is a haven where women feel welcome and empowered. They treat everyone equally, and women-only rides are a regular occurrence.

So, tomorrow, ditch your Amazon cart. Stand with women-owned businesses. It’s high time we cultivate a more inclusive and balanced marketplace, one pedal stroke at a time.
